Constructed in the 14th century by Carlo Zeno, the renowned “Captain of the Sea” and victor of the Chioggia battle between Venice and Genoa, this building stands out with its preserved Gothic facade facing the Rio di San Stin. Two graceful obelisks from the 17th century further enhance its appearance. The Zeno family has deep historical roots in the city, tracing back to Badoario Partecipazio’s era. They’ve consistently been significant contributors to the city’s history, boasting notable ancestors like a Serenissima Doge (Rainer Zeno, 1253) and various ambassadors, senators, and cardinals. Through the years, there have been several modifications to the building. A standout alteration was the contribution of architect Antonio Gasparri, hired by Alessandro Zeno, the ambassador of the Serenissima to King Louis XV of Versailles. As a result, numerous rooms boast frescoes crafted by some of the most renowned artists of that era, including Antonio Pellegrini, Jacopo Guarana, Abbondio Stazio, and Amigoni.
